Medical Mission
This year is our church's 4th medical mission. It was held in Ramon Magsaysay Highschool in Cubao. It's about 5-10 mins drive from our church. Today is my first time to attend as a volunteer. I arrived there around 7:30. There were already a lot of people. While all of us were preparing, a small group from our church made some presentations. They sort of brought the church service there. Around 9am, they started letting people in. There were 6 stations: councelling, xray, pharmacy, optical, medical and dental. I was assigned in the Optical station where people are supposed to have their eyes checked. We have five optometrist and one opthalmologist. We catered to about 300 patients for the past four hours. My job there was to release free eyeglasses based on their eye's grade prescibed to them by the doctors and attend to whatever the needs of the doctors. It was very tiring since I had to run around and sometimes escort the patients. Some of the patients were a bit demanding and others asked a lot of questions. It's hard to accomodate all of them since we're all very busy. I guess these things really happen and since most of them were poor and uneducated, we really need to be patient in explaining things... Overall, the experience was great. I felt so blessed to be able to serve to the poor in this liitle way. I felt happy and tired at the same time when I arrived home because I was able to not only serve but also met a lot of people at the same time. One of the greatest lesson I have learned from this experience is to be contented in what you have. I am too blessed to complain.
